Achieve Net Zero by 2050 at Headquarters Building

Commitment to Net Zero Emissions
Committed to Achieving the Goal of “Net Zero by 2050”

To limit global warming to 1.5°C under the Paris Agreement, the UN has pledged to achieve “Net Zero Emissions by 2050.” In response to global climate issues, SYSTEX has committed to achieving net-zero emissions for the headquarters by 2050, following the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) since 2021. Through carbon reduction pathways, “commitment, inventory, management, reduction, offset, and assessment,” SYSTEX aims to set an example for Taiwan’s IT service industry in mitigating climate change.

SYSTEX has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions of Category 1-6 for the headquarters building by 2050 compared to the greenhouse gas emissions in the base year 2020.

GHG Emission Reduction Actions

Through conducting the ISO 14064-1 GHG inventory, SYSTEX found that the GHG emissions of Category 2 accounted for the highest proportion, exceeding 80%. Therefore, SYSTEX regards energy carbon emission management and reduction as the top priority to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

  • Energy-saving  measures:
SYSTEX purchases and rents equipment with environmentally-friendly labels, replaces power-consuming equipment every year, regularly checks pipelines, and sets the office temperature to no less than 26°C, thereby reducing electricity consumption and environmental load.
For more details about the energy-saving measures, please refer to “Environment & Energy Management“.
  • Renewable energy consumption:
SYSTEX supports the development of renewable energy, purchasing T-REC since 2020 and has signed “Power Wheeling Contracts” in 2022, enabling to use green energy by PPA since 2023. In addition, SYSTEX also reset the short-term, medium-term and long-term targets for renewable energy consumption in 2023, setting the targets for renewable energy consumption rate of 4% in 2024,  renewable energy consumption rate of 20% in 2030, and renewable energy consumption rate of 100% in 2050.
For more details about the renewable energy consumption, please refer to “Environment & Energy Management“.
  • Internal carbon pricing measure:
In response to the goal of “Net Zero by 2050 at headquarters building,” SYSTEX has analyzed the major sources of carbon emissions from electricity consumption and found that the data centers accounted for the highest proportion of electricity usage. Consequently, SYSTEX has formulated the internal carbon pricing measure and allocated funds to increase RE consumption, aiming to reduce carbon emissions from electricity consumption.
For more details about the renewable energy consumption, please refer to “Environment & Energy Management“.
  • Carbon offset mechanism:
SYSTEX intends to neutralize residual emissions by 2050 through purchasing carbon credits in line with the global net-zero standards and regulations.

Note: SYSTEX established 2020 as the base year following its first audit conducted that year.

Environmental Sustainability Policy

In the face of global climate disasters causing issues such as climate change, reduction of natural resources and biodiversity loss, people and organizations around the world are impacted to varying degrees. The climate crisis threatens the survival and development of human beings, and raises the awareness of global environmental protection. For truly understanding potential impacts of extreme weather on operations, SYSTEX has formulated the “SYSTEX OHS., Environment and Energy Policy and Declaration,” continuously implements environmental related mechanisms, and conducts 3 environmental verification every year: ISO 14001, ISO 1464-1, and ISO 50001, to effectively manage performance and reduce negative impacts.
